Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family and where you are from.
I have lived in Richboro for 34 years. My family is from South Jersey where my mother and sister still live now. I moved here when I married my husband Tony, who is originally from North East Philly. My husband is retired now, but he owned AJ Rose Automobiles in Huntingdon Valley for 45 years. My father was an elevator constructor, my mom was a hairdresser and my sister is a retired pharmacist. I have 1 son, 2 step daughters, 6 grandkids, and 2 great grandkids. We are lucky to get to have all of them still living in the area.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have been a chiropractor since 1986. I have been in practice with Dr. Roberts for 6 years. I take care of everyone from infants, pregnant women, all the way up to senior citizens. I think something I do special with my patients is pairing exercise with chiropractic. I really push exercise for my patients because that is the best way to hold your adjustment.
I am also a township supervisor for Northampton Township and have been for 12 years. I am just starting my next 6 year term. In Northampton township we are a second class township which means we are ruled by 5 supervisors. We make decisions through voting on things like budget, who will be our trash collector, taking care of the library, senior center, etc. The 3 big things that we take care of are trash, roads, and emergency services.
Q: Do you have any special interests or hobbies?
My husband and I are boaters. We really enjoy boating on the Chesapeake Bay and have been doing that throughout our entire marriage. I also really enjoy cooking. At Christmas time I love getting to make cookies for the police, EMS, firefighters, and the township employees. For St. Patrick’s Day I make homemade Irish potatoes for the senior citizens that I teach. I am Italian so I cook mostly Italian food. My grandmother taught me to cook when I was young and I am so grateful for those skills. I truly love cooking.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Jersey Tomatoes right here in Holland. Their food is excellent, the owners are really nice, and they are always very easy to work with when it comes to events or fundraisers. I also love 59 Almshouse and Tavern on 10 at our Country Club.
Q: What is your favorite holiday:
Halloween. It is so fun and there is not a whole lot of stress. Also, as a township supervisor I am the judge for the Halloween Happenings contest and I love to see how creative our residents can be. We as supervisors always get dressed up as well. I always try to dress up as an empowered woman because I feel it is really important for young girls to have someone to look up to. This year I did cowboy Barbie. I have also done people like Amelia Earhart and Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why?
I would probably say Michelle Obama. We would probably go do a workout at my gym instead of lunch though. I just love her and how she raises others up through her positivity. I also loved her book Becoming so much.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I have been teaching senior citizen exercise classes for 25 years. I teach a class at the Northampton senior center called “seniorcise”. I am a big believer in group fitness. I think it makes it fun, effective, and it is social. Getting to work with senior citizens is my passion. Teaching this class is probably one of my favorite things that I get to do. I love my class because it brings people together. I see it as a wonderful opportunity to connect people and then I get to enjoy witnessing friendships blossom and people bonding.
I feel as though as people get older it gets a lot harder to meet people and become very isolated. That is why I love getting to teach these classes and also be the liaison for the senior center. I want to bring people together as much as possible and help them not feel so alone.
Q: What is your favorite place you have ever traveled to?
A couple of years ago we got to go to Italy as a joint birthday celebration for myself and my husband. We went on a kind of “How it’s made” trip through Italy. I got to learn how a lot of my favorite Italian foods are made. I loved it! I would go back in a heartbeat if I could. There is so much left to see there.
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Bread baking is my favorite smell.
Q: What are your favorite things in our local community?
I love Northampton Township. We have so much to offer. During the summers we have outdoor concerts, we have Storytime with Mrs. Clause, our Halloween happenings, our Easter egg hunt, and so much more. We have everything we could need right here.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Home means love, family and kindness.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite TV show is Outlander. I also enjoyed Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
My best advice to anyone is be yourself! Trust that little voice inside you! It will never steer you wrong. Be kind and tell people you care about them. Life is short, you might not get another chance.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My son inspires me to be better! I always want him to be proud of his mom!
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5-10 years I probably will retire as a chiropractor. I don’t plan to ever stop teaching senior citizens exercise though! It is my true passion!
